On the 23rd of July the undersea fibre optic cable Seacom went live. They provide a much needed 1.28TBps of data to the African content. The cable connects south and east Africa with approximately 17 000km of submarine fibre optic cable.
The question is however when and with how much the bandwidth prices, specifically in South Africa will drop. So far we don’t know, but some have noticed a steady increase in download rates.
The reason I made this post is to inform everyone Seacom’s blog launch, which will keep everyone updated with the latest developments and career opportunities. They even have a nice forum where you can discuss the impact they have on your community and how you as an ISP or normal user can benefit from their services.
